Description: We were called at 7:07pm today with reports of a thatched roof fire at a property fire in Kingston, Sturminster Newton. Pumping appliances from Sturminster Newton, Blandford, Sherborne, Shaftesbury, Bere Regis, Poole, Tisbury, Ferndown and Wincanton along with the aerial ladder platform from Yeovil are in attendance. Water carriers from Bridport, Yeovil and Poole are also on scene, along with support vehicles from Gillingham and Ferndown.
Firefighters are working hard to extinguish the fire using water and compressed air foam and have completed the salvage of personal possessions from within the building.
Update, Monday 20 April - Good progress was made over night and relief crews from Beaminster, Christchurch, Bridport, Warminster, Verwood, Charmouth, Hamworthy and the aerial ladder platform from Westbourne attended. Firefighters continued to strip away the thatch and extinguish the fire. The stop came in at 2am.
At 4am the resources were reduced down to four pumping appliances from Dorchester, Christchurch, Weymouth, Springbourne, the aerial ladder platform from Salisbury and two water carriers who are continuing to dampen down. At the height of the incident we had approximately 45 firefighters on scene.
Update, 1pm - We now have two pumping appliances in attendance from Christchurch and Dorchester along with the aerial ladder platform from Westbourne and a Water carrier from Wilton who are continuing to dampen down and remove thatch. A fire investigation has been completed and confirmed the most probable cause of the fire was from the heat transfer from a woodburning stove.
Tuesday, 21 April - One crew remained on scene until 9pm yesterday to extinguish any further hotspots using one main line and one hose reel jet. A reinspection took place at 6am today and the incident has been left open fir a further re-inspection later today.
