Westbury White Horse fire

Pumping appliances from Trowbridge, Warminster, Melksham and Corsham along with a small 4x4 pumping appliance from Ludgershall and Westbury are currently attending a large field and grassland fire surrounding Westbury White Horse. The incident involved approximately four acres, well alight. The fire is now under control and crews are using hose reel jets and beaters to extinguish. Due to the large smoke plume local residents were advised to keep windows and doors if affected.

Yesterday's Incidents of interest (2)
Field fire – Ramsbury
12th August, 2026 at 2.42pm
We were called to Crowood Lane, Ramsbury at 2.42pm today (12 August) for a stubble field of 100m x 100m well alight. We initially had crews on scene from Marlborough, Swindon, Stratton (x2) and Cricklade, together with a water carrier from Royal Wootton Bassett, a command unit from Gillingham and a small 4x4 appliance from Hungerford. Firebreaks were created by the farmer using a cultivator, and firefighters are using hose reel jets and beaters.

5pm update: We have stood down the vehicles from Cricklade and Gillingham, and one of the Stratton crews can be released. Firefighters have prevented the fire from spreading to an adjacent field and are protecting the area around powerlines.
Update 7:30pm - The fire has now been extinguished and scaled back to one pumping appliance and one water carrier on scene until 7:20pm checking for hot spots and damping down.Field fire – Nomansland
12th August, 2026 at 12.37pm
We were called to Nomansland at 12.37pm today (12 August) for a fire affecting approx. 25 acres of standing crops, baled hay and a baling machine. Five fire engines, four heavy off-road appliances, two small off-road vehicles, a water carrier, a Unimog and a command unit are in attendance. Initial support from Hightown, Burley and Fordingbridge in Hampshire & Isle of Wight FRS was stood down once crews had arrived from further away.

Update 9:30pm - The fire is now out and the incident has now been scaled back to two pumping appliances, one small off-road vehicle and one water carrier who remain on scene to tackle hotpots.

Property fire, Queens Avenue, Dorchester
11th August, 2026 at 10:58
At 10.58am this morning, firefighters were called to reports of a roof fire in Queens Avenue, Dorchester. Six fire engines are attending this incident, with crews on scene from Dorchester, Weymouth, Wareham, Poole, Portland and Yeovil (Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service). The aerial ladder platform based at Westbourne fire station is also in attendance.

Firefighters are using main lines to extinguish the fire which affects one property.
Colleagues from Dorset Police and SGN are also in attendance. The public are kindly asked to avoid the area.
Update 2pm - The stop message for this incident was received at 1.32pm, however three fire engines remain on the scene.
Update 4pm - We have now left this incident, although they will reattend later this evening to reinspect. Unfortunately the roof of the property has been completely destroyed, which has caused significant damage to the first floor. A investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway.

‘Woodhenge’ fire – Worth Matravers
9th August, 2026 at 3.20pm
At 3.20pm on Sunday (9th August 2026) one crew from Swanage and the Unimog from Wareham were called to reports of a fire involving six large logs at a commercial premises in Kingston Lane, Worth Matravers. Firefighters used two hose reels to extinguish the fire and the stop message was received at 4.05pm.

Chiseldon property fire

We were called at 4:07pm today to a property on New Road in Chiseldon, Swindon. Six pumping appliances were initially mobilised from Stratton x 2, Swindon, Westlea, Chippenham and Cricklade along with the aerial ladder platform from Swindon and a support vehicle from Pewsey. On arrival crews found a fire involving a shed, trees, an electricity pole and two domestic properties. Firefighters in breathing apparatus are using main lines and hose reel jest to extinguish the fire. One casualty has been reported and in the care of the ambulance service.

Update 18:35 - Fire has been extinguished and incident has been scaled back to two appliances. who will remain on scene damping down and checking for hotspots. An investigation to determine the cause will take place later today.

Sheep rescued from bog
7th August, 2026 at 11:09
Crews from Gillingham and technical rescue crews from Weymouth attended an incident today where four sheep were stuck in a bog. Crews worked to free the sheep and were left in the care of their vet and owner.
