Thatch Fire – Broad Chalke

Date: 10th April, 2026

Time: 5.33pm

Description: We were called at 5.33pm today (10 April) to Tank Lane, Broad Chalke to reports of a thatch fire. Crews from Tisbury, Amesbury, Verwood, Salisbury, Blandford, Shaftesbury and Wimborne are currently in attendance alongside crews from Fordingbridge, Ringwood and St Mary's (Hampshire & Isle of Wight FRS).

Additionally, we also have a water carrier from Wilton, a command unit from Gillingham and an aerial ladder platform from St Mary's on the scene.

Firefighters are working hard to extinguish the fire using hose reel jets and tools to remove the thatch.

9pm update: Good progress has been made to create a fire break. Relief crews have been mobilised from Pewsey, Wilton, Warminster, Trowbridge, Poole, Bere Regis, Devizes and Sherborne along with a support vehicle from Salisbury, and the aerial ladder platform from Westbourne.

Saturday 11 April update: The stop came in at 12.16am (11 April). In total, 40 breathing apparatus wearers used five hose reel jets, compressed air foam, two aerial ladder platforms and small tools to extinguish. At the height of the incident, we had approximately 50 firefighters in attendance.
