Description: Erlestoke - crews from Devizes and Westbury attended a shed fire this afternoon. On arrival it was found that the fire, involving a tumble dryer, had been extinguished. Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to check that the fire was completely out. General fire safety advice for using tumble dryer includes:
- remove lint from the trap regularly (ideally after each use)
- use one dedicated socket for the dryer
- do not cover the vent or any other opening
- ensure the vent pipe is free from kinks
- do not leave a dryer running when you're asleep or when leaving the house
- don't overfill the drum
- don't dry anything with oil on it (eg. a rag used to clean up an oily spillage)
- clean the heat exchanger regularly
