Open day at Swindon fire station this Saturday

Date: 24th July, 2023

An open day at Swindon fire station this Saturday (29 July) will raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity and Young Lives vs Cancer.

The event will be open between 11am and 4pm, and will feature demonstrations such as hot oil fires, technical rescue, road traffic collision extrication, putting out fires, and using the aerial ladder platform.

Other attractions will include face painting, a raffle with lots of prizes, the Fire Fighters Charity shop, a recruitment stand, activities for children – including a bouncy castle – and a range of refreshments, including burgers, cakes, ice pops and tea/coffee. In addition, Swindon Town FC will be taking part with a penalty shoot-out area.

There will also be a tombola but a supplier who was going to provide a lot of the items has had to pull out. If you can donate anything non-perishable, such as biscuits, bottles, sweets, toys etc, please drop them off at the fire station on Drove Road, or get in touch via [email protected]

Those attending on Saturday are requested to use public transport where possible but, if you need to drive, please park at Holy Cross Primary School on Queens Drive or St Joseph’s Catholic College in Ocotal Road, as they have kindly allowed the use of their car parks for the event.

Station Manager Dave Slawinski said: “This should be a great day for the whole family, with plenty to see and do. Thanks to the kind donations of local businesses, we are keeping the prices for food and drink as low as possible, and most of the activities are free. That said, we are supporting two very good causes, so we’re looking forward to seeing lots of people!”
