Date: 13th March, 2017
A family disco is being hosted at Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Training & Development Centre in Devizes later this month in aid of the Daisy Garland charity.
National Epilepsy Awareness Day – known as Purple Day – is on Sunday 26 March and, on the same day, the disco will run from 3pm until 5pm, with tickets costing £2.50 each. As it’s also Mothers’ Day, mums get in for free!
Daisy Garland – www.thedaisygarland.org.uk – supports families of children affected by epilepsy, and the event is being organised by Devizes firefighter and Service equipment technician Mike Cleaver and his wife Laura.
Their daughter Poppy has epilepsy, and the family has benefited from the help of both Daisy Garland and the Epilepsy Society.
As well as the disco, there will be games and a raffle, plus refreshments and a cake sale. Amongst the raffle prizes will be a range of bottles and other treats, plus:
- A trip for four on the Kenavon Venture along the Kennet & Avon Canal (departing from Devizes Wharf)
- A family pass for Finkley Down Farm Park, Andover
- A £25 meal voucher at the Three Crowns, Devizes
- A £10 hairdressing voucher
- £25 voucher for Melksham Motor Spares
- Tea for two at the Lavender Lodge tearoom, Whitehall Garden Centre
Mike said: “We will be serving teas, coffees and an abundance of cake for the adults while the children have a great time dancing, so it promises to be a really good afternoon! All of the money raised will go to the Daisy Garland, which is one of the two epilepsy charities we support. They provide so much help and support for people affected by epilepsy, and that can range from a grant for expensive medical equipment to support through the telephone helpline. They also fund ketogenic dieticians in NHS hospitals, which costs £45,000 per year each.”
