Dorset road safety competition

Date: 20th June, 2023

The #SeeYouOnTheRoad Competition is back for 2023.

Following the success of last year’s competition, Dorset Road Safe are once again running a competition for young people aged between 9-16 to design a poster, social media image or animation that can be used to spread awareness of the risks of pedestrian distraction.

Sadly, there were over 100 young people aged between 11-19 who were seriously injured as pedestrians on the roads in Dorset last year. This is higher than any other age group. The number one cause of these collisions was the pedestrian failing to look properly before crossing the road. The second highest cause was the driver failing to see the pedestrian.

There are two age categories (9-12 years old and 13-16 years old) and the competition is open until 31st July 2023. The finalists’ designs will be shared on social media by @dwfrsroadsafety throughout August, and two winners (one from each category) will be chosen by a panel of judges and announced in September.

Both winners will receive a tour of their local fire station and a £30 Amazon voucher, kindly donated by local sponsors.

Full details of the competition, including how to enter, can be found at www.dwfire.org.uk/dorset-road-safety-competition
