Heath fire – Bourne Valley nature reserve, Poole

Time: 3.07pm

Description: We received the first of 60 ‘999’ calls at 3.07pm today (6 July) for a fire at Bourne Valley nature reserve in Poole, affecting approx. 200m x 100m of heathland. We currently have crews on scene or en route from Redhill Park, Westbourne, Poole, Wimborne, Christchurch (x2). Sturminster Newton and Springbourne, together with water carriers from Ringwood and Eastleigh; the Unimog from Wareham; small 4x4 appliances from Ferndown, Poole and Hamworthy; and a command unit from Gillingham – approx. 50 firefighters.

At approximately 7pm, the incident was scaled down to six relief appliances and the stop came in at 7.55pm. Approximately 3 hectares has been affected by the fire.

Tuesday 7 July, 8.45am update: A reinspection last night found hotspots and a crew from Redhill Park extinguished using one hose reel jet. At 8.16am today, we received a call to report further hotspots and one crew from Redhill Park are currently in attendance. Crews are using one hose reel jet to extinguish.
