Fire in empty building – Christchurch

Time: 11.38pm

Description: We were called to an empty premises on Bridge Street, Christchurch for a fire that had started on the ground floor and spread up through the first floor to the roof. Four breathing apparatus wearers, two hose reel jets and two main jets were used to extinguish the fire, and firefighters remained on scene until 4am to deal with hot spots and dampen down. A light portable pump was used to draw water from Christchurch quay. Bridge Street was closed while the firefighting operation was underway but reopened once all appliances had left. An investigation into what caused the fire is underway.
