Servicing and maintenance

You must ensure that servicing and maintenance is carried out by a competent person.

Any equipment provided for fire safety at your event or venue will need adequate testing, servicing and maintenance. You should ensure that fire safety equipment is supplied with suitable testing and maintenance certificates. Regular inspections should be made during the event, especially where equipment could be removed or vandalised or is in an area exposed to environmental conditions.

Tests or inspections could range from a simple visual check to ensure availability of fire extinguishers to a full service inspection by a competent person for a fire alarm system if applicable. Any testing or inspections carried out should be recorded.

It is good practice to ensure records, invoices, certificates etc. are kept together in one place should they be required for inspection by the enforcing authority, e.g. an event fire log or fire file.
