Service supports Bourne Free

Date: 4th July, 2016

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is supporting this weekend’s Bourne Free event.

Firefighters and other Service personnel will be taking part in the Pride Parade on Saturday morning (9 July), and there will also be an information stand in the Square during the day.

Bourne Free, which started in 2004, is an annual celebration of the many diversities who live in the Bournemouth area, and it strives to achieve universal equality for all through entertainment and awareness.

Chief Fire Officer Darran Gunter, said: “As a Service, we are a Stonewall Diversity Champion, and we are proud of our commitment to supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality in the workplace. As such, it is important for us to be part of events like Bourne Free and to support the community – in August, we will also be supporting the Swindon and Wiltshire Pride event.”

He added: “One of our key messages on Saturday is that we welcome applications from the LGBT community to work with us, either as an on-call firefighter or elsewhere in the Service.”
