Your development

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service are passionate about providing learning and development activities to support each and everyone of our staff. From Leadership development and apprenticeships, to coaching and e-learning, we have something for everyone to support you on your own development journey! Here’s what you can expect:

Induction

From day one you will be provided with an induction to introduce you to the Service and provide you with the knowledge and skills required in your role.

Development Pathways

Our development pathways are available for all staff to help you to grow and develop in your role.

Leadership Development Programmes

A range of courses and programmes available to all staff in the Service designed around our leadership framework and behaviours.

Apprenticeships

Fancy learning on the job and gaining a qualification at the same time? We offer apprenticeships across a number of subjects tailored to your role.

Further Education

We can help pay towards any relevant further education courses or conferences required to support you in your role.

Coaching and Mentoring

We are developing a network of qualified coaches to have one on one sessions with to discuss your development and the opportunity to train to become a coach too.

E-learning

Our learning management system includes a range of e-learning modules and learning resources to support you as part of your induction and as you develop in your role.

Operational Training

We have two training centres dedicated to providing training to our operational staff to make sure you have the right skills to be competent in your role.

Incident Command

For firefighters taking that first step in being charge of a fire appliance as a Crew Manager, to the commanders at a strategic level. We will help you develop into assertive, effective and safe incident commanders.

1:1 Reviews

Our 1:1 Review process offers staff the opportunity to discuss key areas of your role with your manager on a regular basis and create a personal development plan aligned to your development pathway.

Talent Management and Promotions

We are keen to support you on your development journey and offer promotion opportunities to support with our approach to talent management.

Open Seats

We offer open seats across our leadership programmes and key Service meetings to offer all staff the opportunity to gain a wider understanding of the organisation.
