The following list of questions has been put together to help you decide whether you would like to apply for this job and whether it would be suitable to you.

Ask yourself the following…

If you were able to answer ‘Yes’ to all the above, then we have your next career ready and waiting.

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria to be able to apply for the role of Firefighter (Control):

As well as the above criteria, candidates should be aware that they will need to meet the standards of a medical health check and eyesight standards for entry.

All Fire and Rescue Service posts are now exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, as the nature of the job falls within the type of work excluded from the Act by the 1975 Exception Amendment.  Please see our ‘Pre employment checks and policy statement webpage for more information.

A criminal record may not automatically bar you from appointment (it may in some cases). The Service will consider whether the conviction or caution makes you unsuitable for appointment. Failure to declare a conviction or caution may disqualify you from appointment or result in summary dismissal if the discrepancy comes to light, and will be taken into consideration on our positive disclosure risk assessment process. Please note we are unable to accept applications from individuals with unspent convictions.

Guidance about whether a conviction or caution should be disclosed can be found on the Ministry of Justice website.

All Firefighters (Control) are also required to obtain Non Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) clearance.

Details of the recruitment process can be found here.

You will be emailed regularly throughout the process therefore it is essential that candidates check their junk email on a daily basis throughout the process.
