Wholetime recruitment opens on 6 November

Date: 3rd November, 2017

A new wholetime recruitment to Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service will open at 12 noon on Monday 6 November, with applications closing at 12 noon on Sunday 12 November.

Over the last month, six ‘have a go’ events have been held to encourage women and ethnic minorities to consider applying, in the hope of getting the best possible mix of people coming forward.

Group Manager Karen Adams said: “Nationally, the fire and rescue service is 95% male and 96% white, so the ‘have a go’ events were aimed at people who might otherwise not have considered us as an employer. When we appoint, it will be the best people for the job, so we want the strongest possible pool of applicants to choose from.”

The on-line application process involves several stages to be completed between now and 5 December:

Applicants will have to answer simple questions as to whether they:

People who are eligible to continue with their application will then be asked to complete a behavioural styles questionnaire; if you pass that, the next stage is a situational judgement test; finally, applicants who meet the requirements of these assessments will be asked to complete ability tests, covering numerical, mechanical and verbal reasoning.

Once the 5 December deadline has passed, successful applicants will be shortlisted for further assessment, to include a multi-stage fitness test, baseline security checks, practical assessment, medical assessment and interview.

Further information about the process, including the deadlines for each part of the on-line assessment element, can be found at www.dwfire.org.uk/be-one-of-us
