Two Trowbridge firefighters are running the Bristol half marathon this weekend (Sunday 14 May) to raise money for a very special football club.
Bristol City Cerebral Palsy FC are currently raising funds to attend a football festival in Copenhagen this summer.
Cerebral palsy is a lifelong condition that affects movement and flexibility. For the players, having a physical outlet that they enjoy, and which goes beyond mundane daily physio exercises, has been hugely valuable.
One of the team’s players is nine-year-old Freddie, whose dad Larson Taylor is a Watch Manager at Trowbridge fire station, working both the wholetime and on-call duty systems.
He’s now roped in his fellow Watch Manager, Steve Taylor (no relation!), to run the Bristol Half with him to raise funds.
Both will be wearing full fire kit and a breathing apparatus set, and they will be joined on the last mile by players from the football team.
Larson said: “Freddie has benefited so much from his involvement with the football club, and all the team members are so excited for their trip to Copenhagen. Steve and I ran the Bristol half marathon in fire kit two years ago with other colleagues for a cancer charity, so we’re both hoping to improve our times and raise lots of money!”
