Remember, remember to stay safe this November

Date: 30th October, 2024

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service would like to keep everyone safe this year by ensuring the responsible use of fireworks and bonfires.

Bonfire night is long remembered for the tale of Guy Fawkes and has since evolved into spectacular displays of fireworks and bonfires across the country. Whilst people may have set up fireworks before, guidance can frequently change and it’s important to stay up to date and be aware of what to do to avoid an accident.

Prevention Delivery Manager, Vikki Thomas said: “Fireworks have the potential to be a great social event enjoyed with friends and family. However, accidents involving fireworks and bonfires can be life changing and have a devastating impact on anyone involved. Therefore, we would really like people to take the time to act appropriately and safely.”

Chief Superintendent Heather Dixey, BCP Commander for Dorset Police, said: “We want everyone to enjoy Bonfire Night and fireworks events in our communities safely. We would urge those attending these events to be considerate of others and will work with our partners to respond to any reports of anti-social behaviour.”

The following top tips will help you reduce your fire risk this Bonfire Night:

If you care for any young children, take a few moments to take a look at our activities library https://www.dwfire.org.uk/education/dwise-safety-stories-and-activities-library/

Don’t forget to check and be aware of the Fireworks Code. Further information can be found at www.dwfire.org.uk/fireworks/
