An open day is being held at Swindon fire station this Saturday (26 July) to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.
The event will be open to the public between 11am and 4pm, and will feature demonstrations such as hot oil fires, technical rescue, road traffic collision extrication and using the aerial ladder platform.
Unfortunately, demonstrations and games involving water have had to be cancelled due to the hosepipe ban in place for the Swindon area.
Other attractions will include first aid and CPR advice from SWAS, a raffle and tombola with lots of prizes, the Fire Service Store, a range of refreshments, and a display of vintage emergency vehicles.
In addition, Swindon Town FC’s Academy will be taking part with a penalty shoot-out area, and other activities for children will include a bouncy castle.
Firefighter Lee Smitten, one of the organisers, said: “We are hugely grateful to our sponsors and the many businesses and individuals who have made donations for the raffle, tombola and refreshments. We want this to be a great day for the whole family so, while we do want to raise as much money as possible for the Fire Fighters Charity, most of the activities are free. We’ve had fantastic open days over the last few years, so we’re looking forward to seeing lots of people on Saturday!”
Those attending the open day are requested to use public transport where possible; there is no parking at the fire station, but car parks are available nearby.
