Investigation underway into Trowbridge house fire

Date: 13th January, 2018

A casualty has been taken to hospital in a possibly life-threatening condition following a house fire in Trowbridge this morning (13 January).

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the semi-detached property in Frome Road at 1.33am and found it well alight.

Six fire crews – two from Trowbridge, two from Warminster, one from Melksham and one from Westbury – were supported by the aerial appliance from Bath and an incident command vehicle from Devizes.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus rescued the casualty from a first floor bedroom – they were initially taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath but have since been transferred to a specialist burns unit at Morriston Hospital, Swansea where they are said to be critical but stable.

Three hose reel jets and a main jet were used to tackle the blaze, together with ten breathing apparatus wearers.

The Service is now carrying out a joint investigation with Wiltshire Police into the cause of the fire. No further details of the casualty will be released until next of kin have been contacted.
