Firefighters thank Swindon residents

Date: 21st November, 2021

Firefighters in Swindon are thanking the local community after a serious fire in Elmina Road today.

Firefighters from Stratton, Swindon and Westlea fire stations were called to Elmina Road at 11.30am this morning to reports of a fire in the ground floor of a terrace property. They used four sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reels and one main line to extinguish the fire. Firefighters also ventilated the property.

Station Manager Dave Geddes, fire investigation officer for this incident said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for the support they provided, not only to the occupants but also to fire crews. Although the fire investigation is still under way, we believe the cause of this fire to be accidental. It is, however, a great opportunity to remind residents about the importance of working smoke alarms which are tested regularly.

Dave added: “Thankfully no one was seriously injured, and firefighters were able to contain the fire to the room of origin. Firefighters will be in the area over the next few days offering fire safety advice and support to local residents.”
