Firefighter organises charity abseil

Date: 18th August, 2016

A Blandford on-call firefighter is organising a charity abseil on 27 August to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity and local good causes.

Crew Manager Steve Hitchings is trying to get as many people as possible to take on the challenge of abseiling down the tower of St Peter and St Paul’s Church in the town.

As well as fundraising for the church itself – which has undergone substantial restoration in recent months – participants can also get sponsorship for their own causes.

Having been the town’s Mayor last year, Steve is supporting his two Mayoral charities – Blandford Opportunity Group and Blandford Forum Gymnastics Club – and also the Fire Fighters Charity.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service’s technical rescue teams from Weymouth and Poole will be supporting the event, subject to operational commitments, and Steve also hopes to run an on-call recruitment event alongside the family fun day being planned by the church, to include a barbecue and activities.

If you would like to support the event – or have a go at abseiling yourself! – please contact Steve on 01258 455840 or 07884 188262.
