Fire Cadets take part in national games

A group of seven Fire Cadets from the Trowbridge area are travelling to London this weekend to take part in the inaugural National Fire Cadets Games.

The competition, hosted jointly by London Fire Brigade and Essex Fire & Rescue Service, is being held at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on 18-19 August.

Fire Cadets representing nearly all areas of the UK will take part in a series of events and challenges, competing against each other in teams. They will put the skills they have learnt at their units to the test, rolling out hoses, tackling obstacle courses and climbing ladders against the clock in a bid to be crowned the National Fire Cadets Champions 2018.

Two new Fire Cadets unit opened at Trowbridge and Swindon fire stations in September 2017, and the first groups completed their courses with pass-out parades last month. New groups are due to start in September.

Rob Guy, Youth Intervention Manager for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We’re delighted to be represented at the inaugural National Fire Cadet Games by one of our two inaugural Fire Cadet units from Wiltshire! This will be a fantastic experience for the young people involved, and I am sure they will enjoy every minute.”
