Emergency Services Family Fun Day this weekend!

Date: 18th July, 2016

The final planning is in hand for this weekend’s Emergency Services Family Fun Day, which is being held at Poole Park on Saturday (23 July).

The annual event is organised by Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, working with a range of partners including Dorset Police, Dorset’s Police & Crime Commissioner, South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and the SafeWise charity.

The free admission show will be opened at 11am by the Chairman of Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Authority, Cllr Rebecca Knox, and the Dorset Police & Crime Commissioner, Martyn Underhill.

A busy programme of demonstrations will run throughout the day until the event closes at 4pm. Attractions will include:

As well as displays and information stands from the three main emergency services, a range of community groups and charities will also be in attendance. Any proceeds from the day will benefit SafeWise, which runs interactive safety education centres in Weymouth and Bournemouth.

Chief Fire Officer Darran Gunter said: “This event started as a Fire Fayre but has now grown to embrace all of the emergency services. As such, it’s a fantastic way for local people to meet their ‘blue light’ responders in a safe and non-emergency setting, and for us to share vital safety advice.”

He added: “There will be a number of other organisations taking part on the day, including several charities whose work supports the emergency services, and there will be activities for children and refreshments available. By using Poole Park, we’re in a location that’s easily accessible for the thousands of visitors that we expect to see, so it should be a great day out for the whole family!”
