Emergency Services Family Fun Day returns to Kings Park

Date: 14th June, 2018

The Emergency Services Family Fun Day is returning to Kings Park, Bournemouth on Saturday 21 July.

This free family event, which will run between 11am and 4pm, is organised by Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, in partnership with local charity SafeWise, Dorset Police, South Western Ambulance Service and other emergency services.

Amongst the attractions will be a number of displays and demonstrations, Safe & Well advice, a ‘blue light’ driving experience, police drones, charity stalls and a wide range of emergency vehicles from across the services.

Pupils from Kings Park Primary School have competed to design the cover for the event programme, and the winner will be invited to meet the Chief Constable and the Chief Fire Officer at the start of the day.

The school is also working with Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service’s education team to put on a firefighter fitness display.

Demonstrations will include police dogs, fire and rescue service technical rescue, police drones, CPR awareness, a real fire display, cooker fires, and a multi-agency road traffic collision.

Craig Baker, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Area Manager for Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole, said: “The Emergency Services Family Fun Day is now in its fifth year and is an established event in the local calendar. It’s an ideal opportunity to meet your emergency services in a non-emergency setting, and to find out more about the prevention, protection and response activities that we are involved with.”

Chief Supt Mark Callaghan, from Dorset Police, said: “This is our largest community engagement event of the year and an excellent opportunity to showcase our own expertise as well as our work with multi-agency partners. The objective of the event is to share crime prevention, community reassurance and safety messages, whilst entertaining people and providing a family day out.”

Rob Hattersley, SafeWise Chief Executive, said: “SafeWise is delighted to be involved with this popular annual event. It’s a great chance for visitors to discover more about our valuable skills for life programmes and volunteering opportunities, which allow local people to make a difference to their local community by helping out in a variety of roles at SafeWise Bournemouth.”

Kings Park is situated just north of Boscombe town centre, next to AFC Bournemouth, and there is plenty of parking in the local area. Refreshments will be on sale throughout the day, and proceeds from the event benefit SafeWise.
