Making safe of dangerous structure – Weymouth

Date: 12th April, 2023

Time: 12.41pm

Description: Weymouth - a crew was mobilised to St Mary Street after someone rang 999 to report a shop sign which had been blown loose in the wind and was posing a danger to passers-by.  The strength of the wind had caused the fixings at the bottom of the sign to pull away and there was the potential for the upper fixings to fail as well.  The sign was large - approximately 4 feet high and 15 feet wide. Firefighters closed the street and used small tools, a triple extension ladder and stepladders to lower the sign in sections. May we take this opportunity to remind the public that road closures are put in place to ensure everyone's safety - people should remain outside any area closed or cordoned off and crews will endeavour to reopen areas as soon as possible.
