Date: 21st June, 2025
Time: 1.20pm
Description: We were called to the Porte Marsh Industrial Estate, Calne at 1.20pm today (21 June) for a fire in a two storey industrial unit. We have approx. 35 firefighters on scene. There is a lot of acrid smoke rising from the fire, so we are advising anyone local to keep doors and windows closed if affected. We have also requested local road closures, so people should avoid the area.
2.45pm: Three further crews (approx. 12 firefighters) have been mobilised to help fight the fire, given the very hot conditions. People are still asked to keep doors and windows closed if downwind of the incident, and to avoid the area.
6pm: Good progress is being made and the fire is under control. We expect to remain on site overnight, although the number of crews will be scaled back. The amount of smoke has reduced significantly, and air monitoring downwind of the incident has found no adverse readings.
9.45pm: The fire has been extinguished, so we only have one crew and the aerial ladder platform dealing with hotspots. We are liaising with on-site staff ahead of handing the site back.
9am, 22 June: We left the scene overnight, having handed the incident back to the site owner. A reinspection will be held later today, and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
1.30pm: Following the reinspection, the stop was made at 1.11pm. A fire investigation will take place in the coming days.
5pm, 23 June: Following an investigation today, we have established that the fire started accidentally due to an electrical fault affecting one of the machines.
