Heath Fire – Wareham

Date: 20th March, 2020

Time: 10.18pm

Description: Wareham - Following a report of smoke and fire being visible in a field a crew from Bere Regis was mobilised to Wareham Forest. Once in attendance the crew confirmed a large area of heath to be alight near Woolsbarrow Fort and requested the attendance two off road pumping appliances, two landrover pumps and a unimog. These were mobilised from Poole (off road appliance and landrover), Wimborne (off road appliance), Hamworthy (landrover) and Wareham (unimog). A further request for assistance was then received for another two off road appliances (coming from Swanage and Christchurch) and two water carriers (Poole and Ringwood). The Wildfire Tactical Advisor also attended. The fire, which was approximately 3.9 hectares in size, was extinguished using multiple hose reel jets, main lines and the unimog and one pump and a landrover remained in attendance damping down hot spots. A re-inspection of the incident will be carried out later on today (21st March)
