Heath Fire – Studland

Date: 17th April, 2025

Time: 2.35pm

Description: We were called at 2.35pm today (17 April) to Ferry Road, Studland to reports of a fire in the open. Crews from Swanage, Poole, Wimborne, Hamworthy, alongside a water carrier from Ringwood (Hampshire & Isle of Wight FRS), three lightweight off-road vehicles from Swanage, Hamworthy and Poole and a high volume pump from Christchurch are currently in attendance. We have approximately 25 firefighters on the scene and they are working hard to contain the fire and bring it under control. They are using multiple hose reel jets, main lines and multiple beaters to extinguish. Ferry road is currently closed until further notice.

6.30pm: Relief crews are now in attendance from Shaftesbury, Westbourne, Ferndown and Hamworthy. The incident is now being scaled back.

7.30pm: The fire is now out and the stop came in at 6.58pm. A reinspection is due to take place tomorrow morning. The ferry is now running as normal.

Friday 18 April, 7.45am A crew from Swanage are currently on scene dampening down remaining hotspots. An investigation into the cause will take place when it's safe to do so.

10.30am We have increased our attendance to deal with multiple hotspots that have flared up due to the weather conditions. We have crews on scene with off-road vehicles from Swanage, Poole, Hamworthy and Wimborne, together with a water carrier from Bridport.

2.30pm All hotspots have been dampened down and we have now left the scene. A reinspection will be carried out this evening.

Tuesday 22 April The cause was most likely human intervention but whether that was deliberate or not, we aren’t able to establish
