Garage fire, Dorchester

Date: 9th May, 2025

Time: 02.38am

Description: This morning at 2.38am, our control room received the first of several 999 calls reporting a property fire in Mountain Ash Road, Dorchester. Firefighters from Dorchester and Weymouth initially attended but at the height of the incident we had five fire crews on scene from Dorchester, Weymouth, Maiden Newton, Bere Regis and Yeovil (Devon and Somerset FRS).

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels, main lines and the aerial ladder platform (from Yeovil) to extinguish a fire in a garage which, prior to our arrival, had spread to a neighbouring garage. The stop message was received at 5.35am. Firefighters from Dorchester day crew will return to the scene this morning (09 May 2025) to reinspect and offer fire safety advice to neighbouring properties. A fire investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.

10am update - We believe the fire started accidentally and there were no injuries. The reinspection has been completed.
