Firefighters deal with significant fire in Swindon

Description: Firefighters in Swindon are dealing with a serious fire affecting four properties in Walter Close. Crews were called at 3.14pm this afternoon. Approx 50 firefighters are using hose reels, main lines and the aerial ladder platform to extinguish the fire. The four properties affected have all been evacuated. Group Manager Stuart Gillion said: “It is not currently clear how this fire started but once it is extinguished, we will begin an investigation. Our crews are working hard with colleagues from Wiltshire Police and Swindon Borough Council to ensure the safety of residents and prevent the fire spreading further.” Update 7.20pm This incident has now been scaled down, with one fire engine and the aerial ladder platform remaining on scene for a few hours dealing with hotspots. A fire investigation will take place as soon as it is safe to do so.
