Description: We were called at 11.58pm yesterday (2 August) to Middlebere Heath to reports of a fire in the open. Crews from Swanage, Westbourne, Wimborne, Redhill Park, Christchurch, Bridport, Ferndown initially attended alongside the Unimog from Wareham, lightweight off-road and support vehicles from Wimborne, Blandford, Christchurch, Hamworthy and Bere Regis as well as a water carrier from Ringwood (Hampshire and Isle of Wight FRS). At the height of the incident, we had approximately 35 firefighters on scene.
At 2am, the fire had been extinguished, and the incident was scaled back to two appliances, a water carrier and four lightweight off-road vehicles. The remaining relief crews are dampening down hotspots.
10.30am update: Relief crews are using hose reels to dampen down any remaining hotspots. The incident has been scaled back to two appliances and a water carrier.
2.45pm update: A reinspection is due to take place later today.
