Description: We received a call at 11.59am today about a large fire in the open on Ryalls Lane, Bishops Caundle. Crews from Sherborne, Dorchester and Yeovil are currently in attendance along with a small 4x4 pumping appliance from Blandford and a water carrier also from Yeovil. The incident involves a hectare of field and approximately 40m of hedgerow. Crews are working alongside farm machinery to extinguish the fire.
14 August, 11am update: During the height of the incident, approximately 24 firefighters were in attendance. The incident was scaled down to two appliances and the stop came in at 2.42pm yesterday (13 August). Approximately 1 hectare of land and 40m of hedgerow were affected. Remaining crews dampened down hotspots and had left the scene by 3pm.
A reinspection took place at 7pm, where further hotspots were identified and extinguished.
A further reinspection took place this morning (14 August) where no further hotspots were identified.
