Description: We were called to Crowood Lane, Ramsbury at 2.42pm today (12 August) for a stubble field of 100m x 100m well alight. We initially had crews on scene from Marlborough, Swindon, Stratton (x2) and Cricklade, together with a water carrier from Royal Wootton Bassett, a command unit from Gillingham and a small 4x4 appliance from Hungerford. Firebreaks were created by the farmer using a cultivator, and firefighters are using hose reel jets and beaters.
5pm update: We have stood down the vehicles from Cricklade and Gillingham, and one of the Stratton crews can be released. Firefighters have prevented the fire from spreading to an adjacent field and are protecting the area around powerlines.
Update 7:30pm - The fire has now been extinguished and scaled back to one pumping appliance and one water carrier on scene until 7:20pm checking for hot spots and damping down.
