Derelict building fire – Swindon

Date: 20th June, 2025

Time: 4.08pm

Description: 5pm: We were called a two storey derelict building well alight, and initially sent crews from Swindon, Stratton, Westlea and Faringdon, together with the aerial ladder platform from Swindon and a water carrier from Cheltenham East. The A420 has been closed by Wiltshire Police and is likely to remain closed for some time.

7.20pm: We have now scaled back to one pump and the ALP from Swindon. The fire has been extinguished but there are remaining hotspots being dampened down. A safety cordon has been set around each gable end of the building due to the structural instability, and a building control officer has been requested to attend.

10pm: The stop came in at 9.29pm, when the road had already partially reopened, and it had fully reopened when we left the scene. The cause of the fire is undetermined because of the amount of damage to the building, it is unsafe to enter.
