Date: 15th August, 2026
Time: 3.03am
Description: We were called to East Lulworth at 3.03am this morning (15 August) for a fire involving a barn containing 2,000 bales of hay, and also a derelict outbuilding. At the height of the incident, we had crews in attendance from Poole, Hamworthy, Swanage, Redhill Park, Westbourne, Dorchester, Wimborne, Maiden Newton, Weymouth, Blandford and Beaminster, as well as small off-road vehicles from Bere Regis and Swanage, water carriers from Poole and Yeovil, and a Unimog from Wareham – approx. 60 firefighters, who have been working hard to prevent fire spread to the adjacent trees, land and property.
We are now scaling back but we expect to have an attendance for some considerable time. We currently believe the fire to have been started deliberately and investigations are on-going.
7.30pm update - we have six crews on scene and will retain a presence overnight. The focus remains protecting the surrounding countryside. Thanks go to Wessex Rescue for drone support today, and the Lulworth Estate for providing us with refreshments.
8.30am update, 16/8/26 - We’ve scaled back to two crews but it looks as though we will have some sort of presence on scene for several days, to make sure the surrounding countryside is protected.
