Frequently asked questions – technology

Q. How many fires will there be?

A. The after-burner technology inside the smoke house can run fires in multiple rooms. We intend to have 130 fires each year (each lasting approximately 30 minutes) that will utilise the environmental protection technology, resulting in 99.5% clean air from the fires. There will be no fires burning at any other location on the site.

Q. What is the impact of the product on staff using it and those around it?

A. Other FRSs are using the technology in residential areas, Cardiff for South Wales FRS and Babcock for London Fire Brigade, operating in a smoke free area of London. The technology cleans the smoke before it is released, emitting 99.5% clean air which is invisible and odourless. There is no black smoke, no chemical residue, no filters to dispose of or polluted waste. The burning is no different to a standard house open fire or woodburner.

Q. Will there be any pollution from wash off?

A. No, all wash off is treated through an interceptor which protects the site and neighbouring sites from surface water run off/hosing.
