Special Service cost recovery

The Service is often called to attend incidents which fall outside of our statutory duties (fire safety, firefighting, road traffic collisions and emergencies) as described in Sections 6, 7, 8 and 9 of the Fire Services Act (2004).

Where practicable, our Service Control Centre will advise callers of other organisations or trades companies that would be more appropriate to help resolve their issue, for example a locksmith.

However, there are occasions where we may agree to provide a service that is outside our core functions, but we will seek to recover our costs in most ‘non-emergency’ circumstances. The application of charges is discretionary and may be waived by the Incident Commander where there are any humanitarian or welfare concerns. Wherever there is a risk to human life or public safety, then this procedure does not apply.
