Lorry into canal – Burbage

Date: 15th June, 2024

Time: 12.51am

Description: We were called with reports that a large lorry had left the road and gone into the canal at Burbage Wharf. The driver of the lorry was still in the vehicle and was rescued by crews and left in the care of the ambulance service. Poly booms were placed in the canal to contain a fuel leak from the vehicle and a clay mat was also used to plug the fuel tank to prevent further fuel leakage. Network Rail were requested to inspect the bridge and the Environment Agency and Highways were also informed of the incident. Crews remained on scene until just after 4am.
