Fire station car wash to support three charities

Date: 5th April, 2024

A car wash, coffee morning and bake sale is being held at Redhill Park fire station, Bournemouth between 10am and 3pm on Saturday 13 April to raise money for three very good causes.

Brain Research UK is for local mum, Becky Sharp, who was involved in a hit and run by a drunken driver last April, while pushing her pram near the fire station in Redhill Avenue.

The brave mum of three managed to push the pram out of the way and her baby daughter Lorena escaped without injury. However, Becky spent eight weeks in a coma and suffered life-altering injuries, including brain trauma and multiple fractures. She was left needing to use a wheelchair during her recovery and requires long-term medical care.

Alfie’s Wish Charity provides children with cancer aged 0-16 years old in England and Wales with a day out or experience to a destination in the UK to make memories with their families.

It was set up in memory of Alfie Butler, who lost his battle to brain cancer when he was five years old. Michelle Pattison, whose husband Jon is a firefighter at Redhill Park, is running the London Marathon this year to raise funds for the charity, having taught Alfie in Reception at primary school.

The third good cause is the Fire Fighters Charity, which supports all serving and retired fire and rescue service personnel.

Firefighter Janine McCumiskey, one of the event organisers, said: “It’s been some time since we last held a car wash, and we’ve added on the coffee morning and bake sale to maximise how much we can raise for these three good causes. Some of our firefighters helped to care for Becky when the crash happened, so we’re delighted that she and her family are hoping to join us on the day.”
