Fun for all the family at Salisbury fire station open day

Date: 21st August, 2023

After the success of its open day last year, Salisbury fire station is throwing open its doors to the local community again this weekend.

Everyone is welcome to visit the fire station on Ashley Road between 10am and 4pm on Saturday (26 August).

Appliances from across Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service will be on display, together with a specialist airport vehicle from nearby Boscombe Down. There will also be a range of demonstrations, including hot oil fires and using the aerial ladder platform.

Other activities will include a CPR training area, where people can ‘have a go’ at vital lifesaving skills; a chance to test your throwing ability at the throwline target practice; and a fire engine ‘blue light run’ simulator.

Children can enjoy the opportunity to dress up as a firefighter and spray water at targets, plus there will be a colouring challenge.

Firefighter Sam Edwards, one of the event organisers, said: “We’ve got lots to see and do, and we’re also hoping visitors will find out more about staying safe at home. It’s all free, although we will be fundraising for the Fire Fighters Charity.”

As well as everything to do with the fire and rescue service, there will be stalls for Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR), the local blood bikes charity, the British Red Cross, Wiltshire Police, South Western Ambulance Service, and the Bobby Van.

Please note that there is no parking available at the fire station.
