Key Stage 1 teachers

Every Year 2 class will be offered a visit by an education officer. If you have not heard from us, please complete this form.

The lesson lasts around 60 minutes, broken up into small sections of different activities such as taking part in actions, listening to a story and games. As well as the safety messages, firefighters are used as examples to inspire the children on skills such as communication, teamwork, perseverance and keeping healthy.

We welcome requests for visits by fire crews, please speak to your education officer when booking your visit, or for a visit on a specific topic please complete this form – please note, visits by firefighters will depend on the crew’s capacity and availability, and may not be available at all stations.

Following the lesson, you may wish to use some of the resources to continue the topic in English, maths and art, as well as discussing the safety messages.

The Great Fire of London: we know this is a very popular topic in Key Stage 1. Please follow this link for our Great Fire of London resources, including a video by the first female Beefeater. As well as looking at the history, the resource looks at why we are much safer today Great Fire of London (office.com)

Please note: in line with guidance from the National Fire Chiefs Council, we do not attend “burning models”. We have suggestions of alternative activities, and if capacity and availability allows, we maybe able to offer a fire engine visit and the Great Fire of London water game to undertake with firefighters. Please use this form to contact us.

If you wish to use firefighters as an inspiration for fitness, please use our ‘meet the firefighter’ videos.
