Firefighters to Tackle the London Marathon in Full Kit

Date: 20th April, 2017

Two Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service firefighters will be joining the thousands of runners in the London Marathon this coming Sunday, but instead of shorts and a vest, they’ll instead be completing the course wearing full fire kit.

Steve Taylor from Trowbridge and Jason Nightingale from Devizes, will be donning the full kit including trousers, jacket, boots and breathing apparatus, as they run the fabled 26mile route through the streets of London, raising awareness and money for Dorothy House Hospice Care.

Steve Taylor said: “Over the last few years, the dreaded ‘C’ word has impacted on many of my friends lives in varying ways, with some calling upon Dorothy House for their help and support. Running the marathon in my full kit is giving me the opportunity to give something back and help raise some much needed money.”

Jason Nightingale said: “I’ve been lucky enough to have run the London Marathon twice before wearing my kit, but this will be my first time combining that with breathing apparatus. Steve and I have run the Bristol Half Marathon twice together in full fire kit, and it will be great to complete one of the most iconic full marathon routes in one of the hardest ways possible.”
