People living in Blandford are being warned to keep doors and windows closed due to significant amounts of smoke rising from a fire.
Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to Bournemouth Road in Blandford at 2.28pm today (6 March), where an empty warehouse undergoing demolition was found to be well alight.
Although the building is next to the Hall & Woodhouse brewery, the main brewery is not involved in the blaze.
Twelve fire crews have been sent to the scene, from Blandford, Poole, Sturminster Newton, Wimborne, Hamworthy, Shaftesbury, Ferndown, Cranborne and Westbourne. An aerial appliance from Salisbury is in attendance and a second, from Westbourne, is en route.
Area Manager Byron Standen said: “Significant amounts of thick smoke are currently covering the local area, so I would urge people to keep doors and windows closed as a precaution, especially if they have a pre-existing respiratory condition. Dorset Police has closed roads in the immediate vicinity, and we are likely to be on scene for some time.”
