Salisbury firefighters to wash cars for charity

Date: 24th April, 2017

Salisbury firefighters will be washing cars at one of the city’s supermarkets this weekend – and it’s all for a very good cause.

The charity car wash will be held in the car park of Waitrose, off Churchill Way West, between 10am and 4pm on Sunday 30 April.

All donations received will be shared between John McNeill Opportunity Centre, south Wiltshire’s only specialist nursery for children with difficulties and disabilities, and the Fire Fighters Charity.

Firefighter Dave Woodgate has organised the car wash – and a charity ladder climb to be held in the Guildhall Square on 27 May – by way of thanks to the Centre, which helps his young son, who has Down’s syndrome.

Dave said: “John McNeill has made a huge difference to my family, and they help us every single week in some way. I really wanted to give something back to them, and my colleagues on Green Watch and across Salisbury fire station were keen to support me, so we’re hoping to raise as much money as possible!”

He added: “Grateful thanks go to the management of Waitrose for allowing us to use their car park, and they’ve kindly promised to provide us with refreshments on the day as well. Some of their staff might even help us with the car washing!”
