Salisbury fire station open day this Saturday

Date: 20th September, 2022

Salisbury fire station is throwing open its doors to the local community this weekend – for the first time in nearly 15 years!

An open day is being held on Saturday 24 September between 10am and 4pm at the fire station on Ashley Road.

Every type of appliance used by Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service will be on display, together with a specialist airport vehicle from nearby Boscombe Down. There will also be a range of demonstrations, including hot oil fires, rope rescue and using the aerial ladder platform – watch out for Blaze Bear being rescued!

Other activities will include a CPR training area, where people can learn vital lifesaving skills; a chance to test your throwing ability at the throwline target practice; and, for children, the opportunity to dress up as a firefighter and spray water at targets using a hose from a fire engine.

Firefighter Sam Edwards, one of the event organisers, said: “It’s been many years since we last held an open day at the fire station, so we are really looking forward to welcoming local people along to have a look round and find out more about what we do. We’ve got lots to see and do, and we’re also hoping visitors will find out more about staying safe at home. It’s all free, although we will be fundraising for the Fire Fighters Charity.”

As well as everything to do with the fire and rescue service, there will be stalls for Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR), the local blood bikes charity, the British Red Cross emergency response team, Wiltshire Police, the Bobby Van and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Please note that there is no parking available at the fire station.
