Melksham fire station recruiting now!

Date: 18th November, 2022

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is looking for more on-call firefighters in Melksham.

The fire station on Semington Road has opportunities for anyone who could provide availability during the week and/or at weekends, with flexible contracts on offer for those who work shift systems or have childcare responsibilities.

On-call firefighters live and/or work within the local community, and are expected to respond to emergencies during whatever periods of cover have been agreed. When the pager goes off, a firefighter can be called to a wide range of incidents, such as commercial and domestic fires, road traffic collisions, rescues from height or water, animal rescue or flooding.

The Service’s recruitment team has been out and about in the local area, engaging with the community and encouraging people to consider being an on-call firefighter.

There will also be a ‘have a go’ event on Monday 28 November between 6.30pm and 8.30pm, when you can call into the fire station, have a chat about what being an on-call firefighter involves, and try out some training activities.

Station Manager Darren Masini said: “The role of a firefighter is very rewarding, and it requires determination, motivation, and a genuine desire to serve the community. Successful candidates will become part of a well-trained workforce, earning additional income, and gaining transferable skills such as first aid, driving qualifications and health & safety knowledge – which can also benefit them in their primary employment.”

If you’re interested in applying to be an on-call firefighter – or you’re a local employer with staff who may want to offer availability – please visit www.dwfire.org.uk/on-call-firefighters, email [email protected] or leave a message on the 24-hour recruitment line, 01722 691444.
