Derelict building fire in Swindon

Date: 20th June, 2025

A derelict farmhouse was severely damaged by fire in Shrivenham Road, Swindon today (20 June).

We were called at 4.08pm for a well developed fire in the two storey building – crews from Swindon, Stratton, Westlea and Faringdon were sent, together with the aerial ladder platform from Swindon and a water carrier from Cheltenham East.

The A420 was closed by Wiltshire Police while firefighters tackled the blaze.

7.20pm update: We had scaled back to one pump and the ALP from Swindon. The fire had been extinguished but there were remaining hotspots being dampened down. A safety cordon was set around each gable end of the building due to the structural instability, and a building control officer was requested to attend.

10pm update: The stop came in at 9.29pm, when the road had already partially reopened, and it had fully reopened when we left the scene.

The cause of the fire is undetermined because of the amount of damage to the building, it is unsafe to enter.
