Charity abseil postponed due to weather

Date: 1st March, 2018

The organisers of the Jurassic Skyline Charity Abseil, which was due to take place in Weymouth this Sunday (4 March), have taken the decision to postpone the event.

The current weather conditions, combined with the weekend forecast, make it too dangerous for the challenge to go ahead safely.

Firefighters from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service have been organising the abseil, in partnership with Jurassic Skyline.

Justin Rolls, from Weymouth fire station, said: “We desperately didn’t want to postpone, as we have 30 members of the public all raring to go and busy raising money for our charities. However, with the snow, bitter cold and strong winds, we’d rather wait and hopefully get better conditions. The plan now is to try again on Sunday 22 April, so we all have our fingers crossed for sunshine!”

Tamsin Mutton-McKnight, general manager of Jurassic Skyline, said: “With the unpredictable extreme weather conditions which we have experienced this week, we fully support the decision to postpone this event to Sunday 22 April. The safety of the abseilers is our utmost priority and we look forward to the event taking place when the weather has improved.”

The abseil will benefit the Fire Fighters Charity, SafeWise, Merlin’s Magic Wand, the Sea Life Trust and Julia’s House Hospice –  while each individual participant is raising money in their own right, there is also a central donations page for anyone wanting to support the challenge.
