Our 2021 / 2022 Fire Cadet programmes are now up and running after the pause in delivery due to the Coronavirus pandemic. There are three Fire Cadet Units across our service area, based at Swindon, Trowbridge and Ferndown.
The aim of Fire Cadets is to support the development of young people by providing a positive role model and giving them opportunities to participate in a wide range of activities.
Young people between the ages of 13 and 18 can apply to take part in this rewarding training scheme, which not only gives them the chance to develop and improve personal and social skills but also obtain certificates and accreditation. Sessions are a mix of theory and practical activities to enable Cadets to build a portfolio of evidence to gain certificates.
The programme is linked to the National Fire Cadet model, and is delivered by specially trained firefighters, Fire and Rescue Service staff and volunteers. Each course lasts for 38 weeks within the academic year, starting in September.

- Gain self-esteem and self-confidence
- Improve communication skills
- Adopt a new set of personal values
- Understand the importance of safety issues and the consequences of anti-social behaviour
- Consider their community and give up some free time to support through fundraising or practical activities
