Open day at Westbourne fire station

Date: 7th June, 2016

Westbourne fire station is holding an open day between 11am and 3pm this Saturday (11 June).

Visitors will be able to see the appliances based at the site in Alumhurst Road, Bournemouth, plus others from elsewhere in Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

There will be a number of displays throughout the day, including a sprinkler unit and driving simulator, while firefighters will put on demonstrations of technical rescue, what happens when a chip pan catches fire, and other firefighting techniques.

A range of fire safety advice will be available, and the Service’s first aid trainer Steve Giles will be on hand to offer basic first aid training.

Other organisations taking part will be the British Red Cross emergency response service, Dorset Live Well and Trading Standards, and refreshments will be on sale.

Station Manager Steve Broad said: “This is a chance to come and see the appliances and equipment that firefighters use, and we’re hoping for sunshine and a busy day! Admission is free but any proceeds or donations will go to the Fire Fighters Charity.”
