Pewsey firefighters’ charity walk for football club

Date: 20th June, 2025

A group of four Pewsey firefighters are walking to the seaside on 28-29 June in aid of the village’s football team.

The ‘To The Sea’ challenge follows the Pewsey Avon Trail to Salisbury and then the Avon Valley Path to Christchurch, a total of 62 miles.

It’s just over 100 years since the journey from Pewsey to Christchurch was first recorded, after a group of locals rowed down the river to win a bet. Pewsey firefighters first took on the walking challenge five years ago in support of the local carnival.

The aim this time is to raise at least £2,000 towards repairing the floodlights at Pewsey Vale FC. The existing lights have fallen into disrepair and, without them, matches are limited to daytime only.

Watch Manager Mark Lewis, who is one of those taking on the walk, said: “Not having working lights limits the club’s ability to host evening games, training sessions, and community events. The club is an essential part of Pewsey life, and these repairs are crucial to ensuring that players, fans, and the local community can continue to enjoy football even when the evenings draw in. We want to keep the spirit of football alive at Pewsey Vale, and with everyone’s support, we can make it happen!”

All donations will go directly to the cost of installing new, energy-efficient floodlights that will help keep the club shining bright for years to come.
